Evening Clouds

It’s been a crazy summer in terms of weather here in northern Colorado.

First we were bone dry and worried about drought and water restrictions.

Now we’re smack dab in the middle of a High Plains Monsoon. Other than adding complications to outdoor activities, the rain has been wonderful. The pasture is still green, which makes for happy horses.

And happy horse keepers!

The sky has been breathtakingly beautiful.

It seems every day I’m saying, “Look at the sky. Isn’t it gorgeous?”

Then I take a moment and a breath and simply let it in. Clouds piled like mounds of stiffly beaten cream nestled in a backdrop of blue sky.

Oh my goodness.

When I choose to see beauty in the world, I always find it.

Always.

Long ago, one of my teaching mentors was fond of reminding his students of this simple phrase that remains with me to this day:

 “What you focus on expands.”

Deep breath.

Big sigh.

Here’s to a beautiful day, a beautiful week, a beautiful life.

Papa Big Slide

Can you think of anything cooler than having your grandfather work at an amusement center?

Especially when you are three years old?

For our grandson, going to Papa’s work is a highlight of coming to visit.

And that smile, well it’s one of the most beautiful things I ever see. And it made me think of all the people with whom I interact every day who don’t smile.

At the grocery store.

At the gas pump.

When I’m out walking.

Very few smiles coming my way.

I’m a perennial smiler. Can’t seem to help myself. Sometimes I get one in return, but not always.

So…two thoughts on this Tuesday morning:

  1. Are you finding joy in the small things in your world? See if you can connect with your three-year-old wonder at the world. It will lighten your spirit. I guarantee.
  2. Are you smiling?

We live in a beautiful world!

Snow on Red Posts

Well, it’s springtime in the Rockies, and sometimes that means the white stuff. Lots of it.

When we went out to feed Miss P. yesterday, my eye caught these little puffs of snow atop this line of red posts. I trudged back to snap a couple of photos.

The red and white and all those perpendicular lines make me happy.

Don’t we just live in a beautiful world?

Every single day!

When looking for everyday beauty, one must be vigilant, because you never know when the next photograph will present itself.

I was enchanted by these two scooters in downtown Denver at the Colorado Convention Center. And don’t miss the lovely woman in the glass behind them.

Ah…

We live in a beautiful world!

Not quite certain who is meeting whom here.

But isn’t it adorable?

They are definitely checking each other out.

Time for Tuesday Beauty

Here in northern Colorado we’ve been bombarded with visual images of the fire that rages in the foothills to the west of us.

Our skies are smoky; our hearts are heavy.

And four days into it, we’re already exhausted, even though this looks to be a long battle.

I need to shift gears for myself, and I thought perhaps, you’d like it as well.

Just for a little breather.

I feel relaxed just looking at this picture of Mija napping beside the blooming clematis.

What I really want to do is crawl into the grass beside her, forget everything for a while, and simply be with the flowers, green grass and purring cat.

Ah….

Time for Tuesday Beauty

I returned from a long weekend trip to find the crabapple tree in my backyard in full bloom. I adore the spicy-sweet fragrance and the way the blossoms are nearly luminescent in the light.

When the sun shines on the tree, my bedroom is filled with soft pink light.

Fabulous!
